D03 versus D05 valves. How to tell the difference.

One of the questions that we are often asked is how to tell the difference between a D03 hydraulic valve and a D05 hydraulic valve.  The best way to determine if a valve is a D03 valve or a D05 valve is by looking at the bottom of the valve.  Using sub plates to illustrate, the D03 valve is on the left and the D05 valve is on the right.

A D03 valve will have four orifices arranged in a diamond pattern.  This is consistent with all D03 hydraulic valves, regardless of the manufacturer. D03 valves will also weigh approximately six pounds for a double coil valve.

A D05 valve will have four and sometimes five orifices arranged in a vee pattern. The fifth orifice is used for valves that are pilot assisted. D05 hydraulic valves will weigh approximately twelve pounds for a double coil valve.  Again, this is consistent with all D05 valves, regardless of the manufacturer.

Any manufacturer's D03 or D05 valve will mount to any manufacturer's D03 or D05 sub plate or manifold.
